Every day, more than 700 GXO employees quietly keep over 2,600 pubs stocked with food, drink and equipment across England, Scotland and Wales. Ultimately, this is the kind of work customers never notice – until it goes wrong. The focus now is on making the system work even more smoothly. That means fewer gaps on shelves, smarter routing, a stronger sustainability performance and a network that can flex with seasonal demand and changing customer habits.
The extended partnership is between two big players, capable of shifting the needle in the sector. GXO is the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider and is positioned to capitalise on the rapid growth of e-commerce, automation and outsourcing. The logistics giant has more than 150,000 team members across more than 1,000 facilities totaling over 200 million square feet. Meanwhile, Greene King is the country’s leading pub company and brewer with around 2,600 pubs, restaurants and hotels across England, Wales and Scotland. The company recently announced it had hit the milestone of 100 franchise pubs.
As Chris Hyde, Managing Director – Food and Beverage, GXO UK and Ireland, put it: “We’re delighted to extend our partnership with Greene King for another 10 years. Together, we’ve delivered some amazing projects and leveraged our sector expertise to drive operational efficiencies across the supply chain. I’m particularly proud of our shared commitment to sustainability and the progress we’re making together. I look forward to building on this success over the next decade.”
For Greene King, the extension is less about transport and more about how the business runs day to day. “We are pleased to continue our partnership with GXO,” explained Group Supply Chain Director Vance Fairman-Smith. “It allows us to work together and focus on a long-term, end-to-end strategy across our supply chain for our pubs so we can best support our teams and serve our customers and communities. By bringing all the elements of our supply chain together, we are optimising our supply network and can expect to unlock operational agility, sustainability and reporting benefits to reinvest in the business.”
Under the renewed agreementm GXO will continue consolidating food and drink distribution into a more scalable system, using its food and beverage expertise alongside automation and technology to steadily improve performance. The aim is not merely flashy innovation for its own sake, but a supply chain reliable enough that nobody in a busy pub ever has to think about it.
