Aston Manor Cider has introduced 100% recycled PET bottles across its entire Frosty Jack’s and Crumpton Oaks ranges and removed plastic ring carriers from its full can range, including Frosty Jack’s and Knights cider.
As founding members of the UK’s Plastic Pact, Aston Manor Cider is in collaboration with businesses from across the entire plastics value chain, generating a fundamental change in the way plastics are designed, produced, re-used, disposed of, and reprocessed.
As of now, Crumpton Oaks and Frosty Jack’s bottles will be made from 100% recycled PET, sourced almost exclusively from British recycled materials.
As well as being made from recycled materials, the bottles can be put into the recycling and made into new bottles for new purposes.
Aston Manor Cider estimates the switch to 100% recycled PET for Frosty Jack’s bottles will save 122 tonnes of virgin plastic per year which is the equivalent to saving 1.8m bottles; 261 tonnes of CO2.
The Crumpton Oaks switch will save 82 tonnes of virgin plastic per year which is the equivalent to saving 2.6m bottles, delivering a reduction of 175 tonnes of CO2.
The removal of plastic ring carriers from Frosty Jack’s and Knights cider brands means 1.3 million pieces of plastic in 2022 will be removed from circulation. Single-serve cans are available as an alternative for both brands, and Frosty Jack’s has additionally launched a 4x500ml carded pack to take home and share.
The Crumpton Oaks brand uses no plastic ring carriers, having previously removed these in 2021, saving an estimated 1.1m pieces of plastic.
Calli O’Brien, Marketing Controller, Aston Manor Cider, comments: “Aston Manor is so proud to be one of the first alcohol manufacturers to make the move into 100% recycled PET across our branded portfolio. The changes to our Frosty Jack’s, Crumpton Oaks, and Knights lines represent an effective, scalable solution to helping us continue to remove original plastic in our packaging, or to use 100% recycled materials.
“Sustainability informs everything we do, and these introductions demonstrate how we’re meeting our commitments to reduce the impact of our products and operations.”
