Bells of Lazonby’s ‘We Love Cake’ has launched a vegan and free-from Cherry Bakewell tart into wholesale and foodservice.

A first for, We Love Cake, the free-from take on the tea-time Bakewell is gluten-, wheat- and milk-free as well as being vegan, while still offering the iconic taste of the renowned, classic British tart.

Individually wrapped and distributed exclusively by Central Foods, the new line will be stocked in cafes, independent stores and chains throughout the UK.

The tarts are soon to be available in bulk-packs aimed at the catering service, for those looking to provide vegan options when catering.

“The Cherry Bakewell tart offering is an exciting innovation not just for the We Love Cake brand but for the plant-based category,” Head of Marketing for Bells of Lazonby, Josh Boydell-Smith, said. “It is the ultimate classic sweet treat, so it is fantastic to bring a vegan version to market. We are very proud of the product and can’t wait for people to try it.”

Made on the edge of the Lake District by renowned family bakers since 1946; these delicious tarts are baked in small batches by skilled bakers. They promise to taste-match traditionally made Cherry Bakewell’s.

The individual tarts are also currently available to UK frozen wholesale, sold individually wrapped, exclusively via Central Foods.

The We Love Cake journey began in 2002 when second-generation family business owner, Michael Bell, tried to live as a coeliac for a week. Unsatisfied with anything he ate, not least the free-from cakes he reluctantly attempted, by day two of the week-long trial he decided to build a dedicated gluten-, wheat-, and milk-free bakery. After years of honing gluten-free baking, he introduced We Love Cake to the UK in 2012.

We Love Cake is registered with Coeliac UK and declared as suitable for those with coeliac disease.

We love Cake is sold across the UK and Australia in Major Retail, Cafés and restaurants. Constantly re-working and revisiting the recipes, in 2019 We Love Cake rebranded and reduced sugar content across its portfolio.
