Waltham Forest Catering, which produces around 15,000 nutritious award-winning meals a day and serves almost 50 East London schools across Leyton, Leytonstone, Walthamstow and Chingford, has become the first London Borough to drop the standard sugar and salt-laden school ketchup and replace it with the 14 allergen free Real Good Ketchup, specially designed for children.
With 75% less sugar and 80% less salt than other named brands, Real Good Ketchup gives school children across Waltham Forest Borough a healthier choice and removes the equivalent of a sugar cube from every plate at mealtimes.
Susan Brettle, Operations Manager at Waltham Forest Catering explained: “We are always looking for ways to reduce sugar and salt on our menus while keeping the meals nutritious and tasty for the children. We are looking forward to working with Real Good Ketchup to help reduce sugar and salt in every kitchen in the Borough, whilst also being able to serve those children with allergies a product they can enjoy too.”
Real Good makes the only ketchup with the lowest sugar and salt levels to meet the nutritional guidelines for children’s food in schools, making it the only true choice for school caterers.
“Real Good Ketchup has been available in independent schools for some time. However, we have always wanted to work with Councils to serve children all over the country with a healthier and nutritionally-compliant ketchup,” said Liz Jones, founder of Real Good Ketchup. “Waltham Forest Catering is a perfect fit for us as a ProVeg School Plate Champion, its approach to nutritious eating including vegan and vegetarian options is brilliant for school children across the Borough. We are delighted it is making this ketchup change.”
Real Good Ketchup is made using all natural ingredients and no added sugar, it is 14 allergen free and boasts 75% less sugar and 80% less salt than other leading brands and has received a Great Taste Award 2024. Real Good Ketchup will be served in schools across the London Borough of Waltham Forest from early November.
