If ocean myths are to be believed, The Kraken eats a LOT! So, the fact that tonnes of plastic and litter are entering The Beast’s ocean home every year is of grave concern. The Beast wants to protect its lair and the creatures who reside within, so in response is opening a beach bar that offers a clever eco-twist when it comes to paying for your cocktails.

You see, under the waves, ‘human money’ is of no use to The Mighty Beast. So, for one day only, the only currency accepted is litter from the Beast’s beach clean. And one full bag equals a round of delicious Kraken Rum cocktails.

Taking place on Saturday 29th July, the first-of-its-kind beach bar will reward hard-working goers participating in a clean of Brighton Beach with a mighty party where all drinks are on the Beast as a thank you for protecting its ocean home.  Kicking off at Fortune of War on Brighton’s iconic seafront, the cleaning extravaganza will begin at 12pm sharp – with special Kraken binbags, litter pickers and safety equipment provided for all.

A joint initiative between The Kraken and marine conservation charity partner PADI AWARE Foundation, the two-hour clean-up will aim to clear every piece of litter from Brighton Beach. PADI Aware Foundation will also be taking it one step further by going beneath the depths of the sea and quite literally diving for debris.

Then, after a brisk afternoon of environmental adventuring in honour of The Beast, a selection of delicious Kraken Rum cocktails will be awaiting the return of those adventuring the clean on land or sea – and can be simply redeemed by handing over a full bag of litter!

The ‘Beast’s Beach Blitz’ stands as one of several campaigns held by The Kraken Rum to promote ocean conservation, having previously collaborated with PADI AWARE Foundation in 2021 for its ‘Ice Clean’ protest that saw Kraken-infused ice cream topped with 3D-printed editable toppings representing the top polluters in the ocean.

“Since 1989, the team at PADI AWARE Foundation have removed over 2 million pieces of harmful debris from the ocean, helping to protect endangered marine species across the world,” Ian Amos from PADI AWARE Foundation said. “We’re delighted to be partnering again with The Kraken Rum in what will definitely be one of our favourite cleans yet that will remove further debris from one of the UK’s most popular summer destinations. We look forward to seeing people at the clean and of course toasting to the Beast after a few hard hours of work that will help protect ocean life and keep our big blue sea from becoming a rubbish pit.”

Attendees will be provided with all the litter picking equipment needed to get involved. Registrations for the clean can be made here.
