If you had to be a nut, you’d be nutty not to be a pecan.  Labelled a superfood by health experts, pecans are high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, rich in minerals and full of Vitamin A and E.  The fact that they consist of more than 50% of good fats means they help level our cholesterol and keep our hearts healthy.

So, it was a no brainer for Hackney Gelato to create a new plant-based recipe using roasted pecans.  Their Roasted Pecan & Caramel is a creamy plant based sorbetto rippled with home-made salted caramel sauce and a scattering of lightly roasted pecans. It’s somehow sweet, savoury, soft and crunchy all at the same time. Seasonally nutty and irresistibly moreish; it’s quite hard to describe but very easy to eat.

“We gather inspiration from ingredients across the globe.  In America, the autumn pecan harvest marks the coming of the holiday season and autumn is all about the pecan.  We love their beautiful, contoured structure, crunchy texture, and buttery flavour; it pairs perfectly with our home-made salted caramel sauce.  Our East London plant based special Roasted Pecan & Caramel Sorbetto celebrates the end of summer and the start of a new season,” said Enrico Pavoncelli, co-founder, and Master Gelatiere.

From September, Hackney Gelato’s nuovo Roasted Pecan and Caramel will be available permanently on Ocado.com and stocked in many independent retailers at RRP £5.49 for a 460ml tub.

Hackney Gelato have now received a record-breaking 40 Great Taste Stars, having just won 9 more stars at this season’s 2022 Great Taste Awards.  They supply some of today’s most exciting restaurants, as well as shops and delis. Think Michelin-starred Brat, Manteca, and Som Saa. The brand’s founders Sam and Enrico, originally trained chefs, know that real flavour comes from using real ingredients.
