Following the ongoing conflict in Ukrainian, the staff at Proactive Publications are raising money for the Disasters Emergency Committee through a 50 mile sponsored coastal walk. The money will go towards Ukrainian refugees who have been forced to flee their homes.

A humanitarian crisis
Ukraine homes have been destroyed, essential infrastructure such as water supplies, hospitals and schools have been hit. People are being forced to hide in shelters and metro stations to stay safe.

As a result, hundreds of thousands of people are crossing borders into Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova, triggering a large-scale humanitarian crisis. The UN estimates that 4 million people could flee the country due to the conflict. The majority crossing the borders are women and children arriving with only what they can carry.

The Disasters Emergency Committee
Proactive Publications is raising money for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC). The DEC brings together 15 leading aid charities at times of crisis overseas. Thirteen of these are responding in Ukraine and its neighbouring countries who have taken in refugees. DEC charities responding include British Red Cross, ActionAid and Save the Children.

Already, DEC charities and their local partners have based themselves in Ukraine and across the border in the neighbouring countries, working to meet the immediate needs of all people fleeing with food, water, medical assistance, protection and trauma care.

The walk
To accommodate for all abilities here at Proactive Publications, the 50 miles coastal walk will be split into five walks, each of 10 miles, across five consecutive weekends. Some of the staff taking part will be walking the full 50 miles, others may only be taking part for one weekend. But rest assured, a rabble of Proactive Publication ramblers will be spending their weekends in March and April making footprints in the sand to help raise as much money as possible for our Ukrainian friends.

Friends and families will be welcome to take part too. We will post weekly updates on our progress on this page, so please stay tuned, and of course, please donate whatever you can.
